Analysis Of The Digital Vernier Calipers Method

CHAPTER 4: IDEA GENERATION & EVALUATION
In order to measure pitch accurately we came up with 5 ideas. In the end we analyzed all those ideas in terms of following criteria’s
1. Ease of use
2. cost
3. Accuracy
4. Ease of fabrication.
4.1 Vernier Calipers method
The Digital Caliper (sometimes incorrectly called the Digital Vernier Caliper) is a precision instrument that can be used to measure internal and external distances extremely accurately. The example shown below is a digital caliper as the distances/measurements, are read from a LCD display. The most important parts have been labeled.
Earlier versions of this type of measuring instrument had to be read by looking carefully at the imperial or metric scale and there was a need for very

So for a decimal measuring device each mark on the vernier is spaced nine tenths of those on the main scale. If you put the two scales together with zero points aligned, the first mark on the vernier scale is one tenth short of the first main scale mark, the second two tenths short, and so on up to the ninth mark—which is misaligned by nine tenths. Only when a full ten marks are counted is there alignment, because the tenth mark is ten tenths—a whole main scale unit short, and therefore aligns with the ninth mark on the main scale. Vernier is pretty user friendly.

4.1.2 Cost
A Digital vernier calipers cost around 15 ~ 20 SGD, which is very much affordable price.
4.1.3 Accuracy
The Vernier caliper is an extremely precise measuring instrument; the reading error is 1/20 mm = 0.05 mm. Close the jaws lightly on the object to be measured. If you are measuring something with a round cross section, make sure that the axis of the object is perpendicular to the caliper. The vernier caliper can read up to 0.01cm.

4.1.4 Ease of Fabrication There are so many types of vernier calipers available in the market. No hardware needed to be

A 1200dpi scanner will provide us 0.02 resolutions. By using flatbed scanner required resolution can be achieved.
4.2.4 Ease of fabrication
Flatbed scanner can bought along with deck from shop. OCR software can be installed in the workstation so there is not much hardware to be fabricated.
4.3 Image processing method.
Image Processing Toolbox in MATLAB provides a comprehensive set of reference-standard algorithms, and apps for image processing, analysis, visualization, and algorithm development. You can perform image analysis, image segmentation, image enhancement, noise reduction, geometric transformations, and image registration. Many toolbox functions support multi-core processors, GPUs, and C-code generation.
Image Processing Toolbox supports a diverse set of image types, including high dynamic range, giga pixel resolution, embedded ICC profile, and tomographic. Visualization functions and apps let you explore images and videos, examine a region of pixels, adjust color and contrast, create contours or histograms, and manipulate regions (ROIs). The toolbox supports workflows for processing, displaying, and navigating large images.

With the Motion Sensor set on ‘Short Range’, it got as close as 0.12 m to a target before incorrect readings are shown. This distance was determined from the point where the motion sensor moved towards the distance where no readings could be obtained after which, it reversed to the 1-meter distance where the readings were picked up by the sensor. This trend is illustrated in Figure 2 where the graph bottoms and levels out on the parabola before rising up once more. When the Motion Sensor was set to long range, the closeness to the target was no different from the ‘short range” setting, that is, 0.12 m. Afterwards, the readings became…

When Mia could go out and play, she was easily winded and took multiple asthma medications to try to help her breathing. After about 10 hospital stays, doctors realized that Mia had a malformation in her aorta, the vessel that pumps blood from the heart. The 4-year-old would need an operation to close off the part of her aorta that was putting pressure on her windpipe and making it hard to breathe, swallow and get rid of phlegm when she got a cold.…

Most people understand that fetuses are extremely fragile and should not be exposed to ionizing radiation; thus, health care providers utilize ultrasound for prenatal imaging. But how safe is ultrasound imaging? Is it safe enough to warrant a fetus’s exposure? Sonography is a safe choice for prenatal imaging, but there are some suspected risks involved. However, the benefits outweigh those risks as long as scans are completed appropriately, especially when it comes to the 3D and 4D ultrasounds.…
