Summary: The Importance Of Routines And Procedures In Education

These routines and procedures are designed around the idea to give students accountability for their responsibilities in and out of the classroom. They are explained, modeled, and then reinforced to assure students understand them all. The Danielson Framework for managing classroom procedures states that students are taking initiative, are minimally prompted by the teacher, and that the overall instruction time is maximized by the classroom running smoothly. Wong & Wong (2014) is closely aligned to the framework because they emphasize the need of procedures for an efficient and orderly classroom to ensure learning. These procedures are student focused so students learn that they play a vital role in the classroom and are also in charge of their education. In several instances, Burden (2010), refers to the importance of setting the tone of the classroom by the procedures in the first few days of school. These initial procedures are meant to have a long lasting effect on the classroom to make the learning experience phenomenal for everyone.
Routines and Procedures
1. Personal belongings-Students will take their “go home” folder out of backpack to put in the basket then, put their jacket and backpack away in their designated area each morning. The teacher will explain where everything goes as she shows the class. Ask for a student

Listening to speakers- When someone in the class is speaking, teacher, fellow student, or guest, everyone must be respectfully listening. Students will listen to the teacher/speaker with full attention; no talking, moving about the classroom, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand and waiting quietly to be called on. After instruction, students should make sure they understand the concept, if not, they should ask questions. Encourage questioning in the class. To ensure students understand, ask them if they have had any other different types of listening in previous classes and if they have questions to
