Songs are storytellers of life. They often tell a narrative that portray human characteristics such as emotions, experiences, and personality that listeners can relate to in some way. These stories can evoke positive or negative emotions due to the experiences of the listener. Everyone has that one song that they feel as if it was written for them, the one that stands out and relates to who they are as a person; that song for me is “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. This song expresses the struggles that have helped me become a stronger person, the never-ending challenges that I tackle instead of running from, and my motto of never giving up despite how hard continuing on might be. In “The Climb” Cyrus sings, “I can almost see it/That dream I'm dreaming/But there's a voice inside my head saying/You'll never reach it." Like Cyrus sings, I am a dreamer. I dream of going to college, having a family of my own one day, and becoming successful. There are steps that need to be taken so that I can achieve these goals and these steps are criticized by myself. For example, if I were to get a B on a math test, I would get upset because it is not the best it could be. I would look at the questions I missed and work hard to improve on those topics, rather than blame the teacher or accepting that I cannot comprehend how to complete a problem. I am hard on myself because I strive to become the best and most successful that I can be, not because I think low of myself. When Cyrus sings “You’ll never reach it”, it gives me the motivation and determination to prove myself wrong by achieving my dreams. It is because I am hard on myself that I enjoy accepting

I feel the song Compass by Lady Antebellum describes my character in a nutshell. It’s about following your heart not as much your head. It is about living life as it’s laid out, not how you think it’s supposed to be. I love this song because it also reminds you that someone will always be there when you need them. You may not know who they are, but I hope humanity has not yet reached the point where we leave another human being in need out on the street without offering any help.…
