First of all, comparing in this essay is quite easier than contrasting since the only common thing here is bullying, but there are many difference between these two articles. The first article focuses on cyber-bullying outside of school hours, while the second article discusses homophobic bullying specifically in schools. These topics had been and still are very serious topics in our current day lives, and we must do whatever it takes to find proper solutions and ways in order to take control over the current situation and try to solve it completely as soon as possible. The article “Bullying Today” by Shaheen Shariff discusses in depth the rising issue of cyber-bullying. It defines cyber-bullying and gives its characteristics in this world of technology.…

Why is it that in our society feeling sorry for one's self is unacceptable? I read an article that claims such indulgence will lead one to failure. The author’s use of his friend's job losses and the inability to hold down a job was the direct result of self-pity, a device to be seen as a victim in an attempt to garner another’s attention and sympathy. In actuality, this is a fallacious example of cause and effect (self-pity > victim role.)…

In William Golding’s article, Why Boys Become Vicious, he stated, “But what must be true is that we can be twisted and distorted beyond recognition by the guidance—or lack of it—that we absorb directly from our families. If there is no one around to guide children, then they go wrong.” He also expresses a similar idea in his book, The Lord of The Flies, when a group of boys are abandoned on an island and must work towards getting rescued while also preserving humanity. This is experienced through the eyes of the main characters Ralph, Piggy, Jack and Simon. Golding proclaims the theme that if one does not tend to the agitating ways of savagery, it can spread and destroy, by using two predominant symbols in the book, the painted mask and fire.…
