Although the book is told in 3rd person, the narration follows Clary Fray around most of the time. She is just an average 15 year old girl from New York who is just about going through that awkward teen stage, going to clubs with her best friend Simon, painting and drawing, all ordinary stuff right? That is until she starts seeing people that no one else can see and going through a series of strange events that alters her life forever. The thought that Karmen could turn him in, or at least advise Ol' Bob, and his cronies in the bar that they had a theif in their midst, and he'd be awakened to the sight and sounds of a lynch mob banging down the door of his lodgings, to be strung from the nearest tree, or thrown in the town lockup, had crossed Duane's mind. Albeit only momentarily. As much as he occasionally wished it to be the case, the small-time thief didn't really believe that his exploits in the East were of such infamy as to have his face and name plastered on wanted posters two-thousand miles away, or that there'd be an arrest warrant out for him in Nevada, and he'd left the drunks wallet in the bar, so there's was no evidence on his person to link him to any crime. Apart from the bundle of cash he'd stuffed under the mattress, which, with a white lie or three, could easily be explained away as his. Aside from that, he'd gathered the singer was keen to get away from the town of…
