I read the title of the book and author then I asked them what they think the book or story was going to be about. The one little girl in the group answered that she thinks it was about dogs. Then I turned to a random page with a scared dog on it and ask them why they think the dog is scared and they answer with they don’t know. So I said why don’t we find out.

They sat on the side of me so I had to make sure that everyone one could see the pictures and I did a good job making sure that they all got a chance to see the pictures. I think another thing I did that was good is letting the children chose the book they wanted to read I didn’t pick one for them, they got to choose which one they wanted I think that make it more fun for them and they also stay more engaged that way. It could be simple as picking the wrong book, not all children are the same so not all children like the same books you might that don’t interest the some of the children you will start losing the attention of them during reading time. The tone of your voice is another tool and strategies that are needed while reading the children the tone of your voice can draw children into the story and can bring the character to life making them more realistic to children. I learned that no matter how much you prepare, you can still find things that you can improve and work on. For example, during the last couple observers I been doing I have been reading to children and since taking this class I always ask myself what could I have done better or what will I bring next time I read to children. I also learned like how we talked in class that reading books to children helps build community and supports understanding of others. One example is when I see children reading right before lunch time there is always that one group of children that sit around each other and talk and look through the book.
