Most did not have cars or very nice houses. They all had to live on different sides of the town and had to ride the bus or walk to get to where they were going. Unless of course they had a car. They were not to be seen ever talking to white people outside of their homes or events. Everything was different for the help. They had different grocery stores, with which the food was sent from the white grocery store that was old or of bad quality. They had different churches, different clothing stores, different post offices, different everything. White people were superior to the help, ALWAYS. If you were born into a black family you were automatically at about fifteen to start your first maid job unless you were a man. Then you worked on cotton fields or farm work, cutting trees, mowing lawns, etc. Most had to drop out of school by ninth grade to help buy groceries, and pay the house bills. After two weeks the results came back and they were going to print the book!!Everyone never thought this day would come it was so exciting. The thought of the actual feelings of having to work so hard and being afraid of being caught or put in jail and they made it!! They were going to print some in a couple of states which the editor said was no big deal but the people started buying them so fast they soon began to sell everywhere. After Hilly began to read the book she began to tell everyone the book had to be about Jackson Mississippi and that she had no doubt. She told all her friends they better look out for their maids, but after she got mid chapter she nearly fainted. Minny put in the book about the story of the pie. They said they needed insurance. What they meant was that they knew that If and when Hilly read the book that when she saw the part about her she wouldn 't want anyone to ever find out, it would ruin her reputation. So she began to soon after tell everyone that the story could never be about a lame , terrible town like Jackson
