During the story, the protagonist projects himself as one of the victims of the fear and sadness that the murders had brought to the school. “ I had my own car on campus, and I took six people downstate with me..It wasn’t a pleasant ride. For all any of us knew, Springheel Jack might have been in the car with us” ( King 184. Through the reading, the protagonist mentions how the students were scared about what was happening in the school. Students were overwhelmed by the fear of not knowing who the killer was and he does not mention anything that could give the reader an idea of who could be the killer. He stayed and watched how fear and sadness affected everyone and this made the story more interesting. He gives a personal perspective of how the students was reacting. “The fog came again that night..I walked that night.. That was one of the most beautiful nights I can rememeber”(King 179) While the rest of the students were scared, he was out again looking for another victim. He was not scared of the police, he was enjoying the moment. This makes the protagonist more interesting to the reader because he is the one narrating all these events. It is not revealed until the end that he is the killer and the story has a complete twist. On the other side, A Rose for Emily’s Protagonist’s has a more passive role. ” Thus she passed from generation to generation- dear, inescapable, impervious, tranquil, and perverse”. (Faulkner 655). She has a more secretive lifestyle and the people around her narrate what
