Larsen’s very descriptive examples of Clare’s beauty, “An attractive woman… [With] dark, almost black, eyes and… wide mouth like a scarlet flower against the ivory of her skin” make her a very powerful woman. According to Dawahare, “... her literary prototype is The Great Gatsby 's Daisy, the "golden girl" with a "voice full of money"(126) (Dawahare, 34). Fitzgerald portrays Daisy, an insecure yet obscure woman. Whereas, Larsen portrays Clare as a mischievous woman that is also obscure to what her intentions are. They both were cold to their daughters and both had married to secure their future and position within the wealthy society. Both of them were dangling on the cord, they were taking risks, and they knew the consequences but were not afraid of them until the end. When in reality, Claire’s situation could be more relatable to the great Gatsby. Is not necessarily about race, but about security and fortune. for example, Gatsby came from a lower socioeconomic status. Once he reached fame and fortune, he wanted to obtain all that he had lost in the past and once he thought he had it all, it ended tragically such as Claire story. She had a tragic past, from which she wished to escape and once she was secured and had the conformities of money, she longed to go back and regain what she had lost in which ended
