Bud learns the meaning of the quote by becoming a new family with the band. So, Bud, Not Buddy is a story about a child named Bud and his mother dies during the great depression. After his mom dies he goes to live in an orphanage and he's been to three foster homes. The third foster home belonged to the Amoses and they locked him in a shed so he leaves the orphanage. Bud would be confused about opening and closing doors. In Chapter 5, Bud gets told when one door closes another will open Bud didn't know what it meant until later on in the book. If Bud never heard these words the book would have ending. On the other side, Bud had learned the meaning of what his mom meant by opening and closing doors from the band. Bud would find a different perspective on the ending. In conclusion, Buds perspective would change if he never learned the meaning of opening and closing doors. Next, Bud wouldn't live a better life if his new door never opened. In Chapter 5, Buds mom exclaimed
