“When Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning from an unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin”(Kafka 1). In the novel The Metamorphosis Gregor and Grete Samsa were main characters that stood out throughout the novel, unlike Gregor parents. Who worked him to death just to pay off his father’s debts and provide for the family. After his transformation, his parents really seemed as if they did not care about him. They could not even bear to look at him without freaking out. "Into a room in which Gregors ruled the bare walls all alone, no human being beside Grete was ever likely to set foot"(Kafka 32). Grete, afraid and confuse of seeing Gregor in his new state, was the only one who really help him through his ordeal. …show more content…
Gregor wanted to save some money to send Grete to a conservatory so that she can study violin and improve on her skills. But he did not have a chance to tell her because he could not speak as a human anymore. And Grete on the other hand would feed Gregor different kinds of food to see which ones he prefers that demonstrates how caring they are towards each other. But as time went on she finds a new job as a sales girl. She has to try and help provide for the family. That’s when the novel of the story is begins to flip. Before when Gregor was a monstrous vermin “he felt very proud that he had been able to provide such an nice apartment for his parents and his sister. But what now if all the peace, the comfort, the contentment was to come to a horrible end”(Kafka 21). At this point he feels worthless on how he cannot provide for his family any more. So now the table is turning on Grete, instead of Gregor having to work while Grete stays home, Grete has no choice but to work while Greogor stays …show more content…
Mr. and Mrs. Samsa realize on how "Grete had bloomed into a pretty girl with a good figure"(Kafka75). Now Mr. and Mrs. Samase are going to find a rich wealthy man to marry their daughter so that they would not have to work no more. There is a connection on how Gregor parent used him as a tool until he was not capable to work anymore. Now it’s Grete turn to be used as a tool the same way as Mrs and Ms Samsa used Gregor.
Grete was the only one who tried to helped out Gregor threw his ordeal to the best of her ability, because they both had a strong connection before; they shared similar yet different traits in the novel until Grete could not take it anymore until Gregor death.
