In the Documentary “Dealing with a Dictator” directed by Scott Anderson the film conveys the issues faced by the Canadian Company Nevsun while creating a mine in Eritrea. The Canadian company was reached to be the one to build a mine in Eritrea because of the large potential of money that could be able to earn through the creation of a mine. After some years of thinking the company decided it would start to work on the mine and make this another project of the company. However it was not so simply for the company because a lot of controversy began to come up when workers were speaking up on the horrible environment that they were being kept. Some of the issues have gone as far as questioning the revenue being made by the mine. Stating they might be used by the government to fund terrorism. When Nevsun was asked about this situation they states they were unable to show any of their records and for them to contact Eritrea government, which they then would state they had no records to show and to contact Nevsun. The back and forth of the government and the company did not give any accurate response to what was really happening and whether that money was being used for harmful things. Nevsun’s vice president denied any form of harmful behavior that may be done with the use of the revenue made by the company. He only discussed how Nevsun has positively affected the social and economy life in Eritrea. In the documentary they used evidence to show that these rumors had some validation by going to talk to workers that had gone through miss treatment and investigating the terrorist attacks that had happened. Two workers that were the ones filling a law suit against the company were the ones to talk about what was really happening in the mine. The results, finding very little and having the vice president deny any sort of connection with any of it. The Canadian company should re-evaluate their contract with the Eritrea government and hopefully insure that the workers are being treated the way they should be and that they are not taking advantage of them. Nevsun swears there is nothing wrong with their project in Eritrea and although other thing prove that wrong the will not admit that they have made a mistake. The company should not be okay with working their workers days and nights for days. Even when the government is the one that is providing the workers the company should have some say or input on the choosing because it affect them as
