The purpose of James was to encourage people to live a Christian life, to resist temptation and be faithful to God in all ways. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him (James, 1:12). So as people live in the Christian way by spreading the word of God and living in the light of Him, doing right, they will be praised. God promises the Kingdom of Heaven to those who are faithful, and that is the reward. When James discusses the poor man "taking pride in his high position" and the rich man "taking pride in his low position" goes back to material goods. God does not care for greed or material wealth. James calls riches corrupt, " Your riches are corrupted, and your garments moth eaten. (James 5:2). When thinking of how men are the same at the core, it does not matter if one is rich and the other poor. It is how he presents himself to God and the world, taking pride in himself. James calls the tongue " an unruly evil". He talks about how all the creatures except man have a controlled tongue. But man, has a tongue that is "full of deadly poison". On further assessment of what James was talking about, is that man needs to learn to control his tongue in order to be good and righteous. It is up to man in how the tongue is used. It can be for evil, causing confusion and bitter envy or it can be used for good and spread peace and good faith. The tongue can be…
