Sir Isaac Newton, who is recognized as one of the most influential scientists ever, discovered gravity around the summer of 1665. The tale is that Sir Isaac Newton saw a falling apple while thinking about the force of nature. This would become the First brand for a new company, Apple. Apple would continue into the present years creating and inovating, but one of their largest failures was the Apple Newton.

In the Late 1980 's John Sculley had forced out Steve Jobs. Experienced executives focused on advancing the Apple brand. In 1986 John Sculley commissioned two high budget video mockups of the "Knowledge Navigator". Sakoman found the work uninteresting, he planed to leave apple and work on handheld computers. Sakoman recruited Jean Louis Gassée to lead a new company, bankrolled by Mitch Kapor. This never happen since it appeared that Apple would most likely sue the newly founded company.

To keep the accomplished Sakoman from losing focus and defecting, Louis Gassée proposed the creation of an experimental project to create an Apple handheld computer. The project was approved by Sculley, without specifically telling Sculley what was being researched. Sakoman named the project after Isaac Newton, Apple 's original logo, "Apple Newton". Trudeau would later admit to the research and development team that he had not even tried the handwriting recognition for himself. Trudeau simply wanted to pasquinade the Apple team with their device. To the press and Trudeau it was an easy target and so was the idea of creating a $700 device to replace a $5 notebook.
