Throughout the book you will find the letter X to make references in maths, by using it to symbolize the unknown. The second symbol that we can see that it is mentioned throughout the book is the wall. The wall symbolizes the citizens alienation from to their own selves. This theme could also be related to the Soviet Union or even germany at that time because people couldn’t say their opinions, or jewish, gays… were against the law and where considered by the rest of the population as aliens. The author uses other figures of speech too such as metaphors, ironies, and imageries so if you are really interested in the english language and the literature devices this is the book for you.
The stylistic devices that the author uses are really diverse and really different on how he writes them. An example of metaphor that Zamyatin wrote is, “Then she raised the blinds, lifted her eyes, and I saw the fire burning behind those windows” in page 31 from the book.
