Beatitudes: How To Live A Purpose Driven Life

Great Essays
God may have placed people here on this earth intending for them to live according to his will and his way, and to fulfill a purpose. However, it appears that many people today are failing to live a purpose driven life. Sadly, they’re not living their life with God in mind at all, possibly because they don’t know how, because they don’t believe in God or because they feel they have plenty of time for salvation. Thankfully, for those who have the desire to live a life that is pleasing to God, there are numerous instructions provided throughout the bible of how to live a life that is according to God’s will and his way. The Beatitudes were a God given law that instructed the people on how to conduct themselves while here on earth. According to …show more content…
Jesus taught and explained each Beatitudes to his followers from the mountaintop. The first four of the Beatitudes were directly against the four greatest temptations in our lives, and seemed to have a longing for a more profound relationship with God. The next four fall in line with the new law and “they reveal the transformation of our lives as fruits of that relationship” (The Beatitudes: Pathways of Living in True Joy and Peace 2010). They are detached from pleasure and they mourn because they are sad possibly due to their transgressions or the losses in their lives, but we can take pleasure in knowing that God will comfort us in our times of sorrow. Third, blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. The meek are those that are detached from power and that exemplify gentleness of spirit, humility, patients and are courteous towards others, for they would inherit the earth. Forth, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. They are …show more content…
They were given to teach the people how to live for God and how to live in relationship with him and appreciate creation and what God had already done. Also, they were to teach individuals how to look at the world, to change the people and to see the value and worth of others. The Beatitudes purpose was also to provide people with a pathway to follow to find the happiness with God in their lives that they’re in need of. According to the beatitudes, the sermon that Jesus gives using the beatitudes informs individuals how upright they must be in order to enter into the kingdom, and it explains what an upright life of citizens of the kingdom should look like. Furthermore, “the qualities of the beatitudes give a picture of the character of the true people of God, those who are a part of his kingdom and have the full blessings of the kingdom to look forward to, and taken together they give the picture of the perfect disciple of Christ who is the heir of the promises” (7.The

In her essay “Meaning in Life and Why It Matters,” Susan Wolf discusses the reasons that contribute to meaning in our lives and argues that we should “understand meaningfulness as an attribute lives can have that is not reducible to or subsumable under either happiness, as it is ordinarily understood, or morality” (3). In laying out her beliefs of how we can find meaning, she discusses different viewpoints and offers suggestions of how they should be altered and combined to make a more accurate theory she calls the ‘Fitting Fulfillment View.’ In this paper I will explain the details of the Fitting Fulfillment View as described by Wolf as well as why it is important to talk about meaning and how we can judge whether something is meaningful or not. Through looking at the example of education, I will prove that Wolf’s account is reasonable, versatile, and…

Such as, God showing his immense love for his creations by giving Adam a partner after realizing that Adam was lonely because all of the other animals had a partner to be with as read in Genesis 2:18-25.…
