The great recession in America was an economic disaster. In 2008, almost 8 million people lost their jobs. Along with that, it wiped out small and big businesses. Not only did it affect the US, but other countries who traded with the US experienced some changes too. The industry that faced major losses was automotive. The automotive industry was hit particularly hard and plays a big role in the economy. In this essay, i will analyze the automotive industry, its major competitors and the time period will be from 2008 to present. The top 5 largest car companies in the world are; first in place is , Toyota. It has a yearly sale of nearly 10.2 million units. The second is Volkswagen. Volkswagen has a yearly sale of nearly 10.1 million units. The third largest car company is General Motors and it is an American company. Its unit sale yearly is nearly 9.92 million. General motors manufacturers five different car brands. Those brands are Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Buick and Pontiac. the fourth company is Nissan. The unit sell per year is nearly 8.47 In the last place is Ford, also an American company. Ford manufacturers the brand lincoln. Ford sells nearly 7.71 million per year. Its major competitor is General Motor. Both companies have fought roughly trying to produce the best car lineup. For example, Chevrolet produces SUVs, sports cars, sedans, pick up trucks, and, Crossovers. However, not all the car companies produce the same type of vehicles. Some focus on producing a sports car and others focus on producing trucks only. For the most part, the majority of the people seem to buy sedans more than any other type of vehicles. Most of the companies try to come out with unique car styles but have a few similarities. Some of the similarities will be something like the hybrid. Most car companies at least produce a hybrid type vehicle. Another similarity would be the car line up, for example, truck, pickup, sedan, crossover, etc. The only difference would be in the engine specs. For example, Nissan is known to be high efficiency in gas but low on horsepower. On the other side, General Motors has both the horsepower and gas efficient. In the beginning, General Motors focused on producing powerful products with high horsepower regardless the intake of gas but now it is working on producing both economic and high power
