The article entitled “ On mental Illness, Mental, Inmates, and Recidivism by Laura Hult, she explored the relationship between mental disorders and recidivism . A case study was conducted to evaluate why recidivism rate has increase over the years. Hult is a psychiatrist and she worked at local jail. She have done a case study to why inmates were incarcerated .She had discovered that about 50 percent of the inmates has mental illness. Once the inmates are released , they are not undergo treatment to prevent being arrest again for committing crimes (Hutt,2010). Hult assisted the inmates while incarcerated by setting up a treatment plan . She also assisted the inmates with planning a treatment plan when they are released. The staff members and Hult discovered that the treatment plans had decrease the recidivism rate. In the case study in the article called , “The Role of Psychological Counseling in Improving Behavioral Dysfunctions in Recidivists Criminals,” by Cristina Balan, in the case study the participates had mental disorders . It was also discovered that recidivism has increase because of mental illness. The criminal offenders were not taking medication and going to therapy when they were released from prison. It is important for criminal offenders that have mental disorders to seek treatment to reduce recidivism and to prevent criminal
