In the context of the article, globalization brings positive changes to the traditional ways of life. Specifically, the author demonstrates various forms of cultural interactions, which are an outcome of globalization (Appiah 6). At the beginning, the story gives a picture of the Ghanaians enjoying their traditional festivals that incorporate some elements of the modern way of life. The article shows that the best ways to address globalization concerns are when a conflict of value, norms, and practices arises. As a cosmopolitan, Appiah has indicated clearly that disagreements emerging due to the collision of cultures can be addressed by subscribing to numerous wildfires. He strongly indicates that the Universalism approach to globalization has risks since counterproductive outcomes are created. I strongly agree with his argument that guarding the local culture does not favor the people of that culture. Protectionism is not a good practice as it only creates barriers to the traditionalists so that they cannot enjoy the benefits that come with globalization. It is high time for societies leave it to an individual to make a personal choice about the values they would like to borrow from other cultures rather than prevent people from enjoying the benefits they deserve. Individuals should be at liberty to make decisions concerning what they want to adopt from the western practices and those things that need to be protected.
