Analysis Of The Article 'Daughters And Trumps' By Frank Bruni

Decent Essays
Today, I read the article “Daughters and Trumps” written by Frank Bruni. I chose this article because it seemed interesting. It also had a man’s point of view of Donald Trump’s actions in the video posted on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The article is about how multiple men are reacting towards Trump’s comments in the posted video. People are very “appalled by Donald Trump’s comments about groping women”. I agree with this comment and I am utterly disgusted with the way Donald Trump speaks about women. He says that he has the most respect for women yet he is the one groping women and sexually assaulting them. Apparently, this is okay with him. He should know that his time as a republican is most likely going to run out and he will not be president

“There I was, getting ready to argue my very first contested case, and it's before the United States Supreme Court. I'll never forget the morning of oral arguments. I got up really early and headed over to put the last touches on my argument. There was a sense of majesty, walking up those stairs, my steps echoing on the marble. I went to the lawyers' lounge — to go over my argument.…

Just as in Miss Representation, Tough Guise 2 evaluates the effect of a toxic gender hierarchy portrayed in American media. However, this documentary focuses more on the male experience and how constructs and scripts of masculinity can affect them throughout their lives. While girls contend with images of Barbie Malibu as the standard of feminine appearance, boys are shown a GI Joe with biceps that measure even larger than Dwayne Johnson’s as the ideal standard of physical masculinity. Additionally, the numerous manners in which violence is encouraged in men sprouts from everyday media like TV shows, ads, and video games. It promises men uncompromising control, dominance, and power over others in life, defining these traits (among others)…

Politically we live in a quite polarizing time. Between the two viable presidential candidates and an equal amount of dissatisfaction of those candidates on both sides, the fate of this country is seemingly up in the air. Though the election holds a discernable amount of media coverage and attention of the public every term the media coverage of this particular election has been dominated by the hateful rhetoric and call to violence of a particular candidate. The candidate calling for this violence is Donald Trump, he on multiple occasions has called for violence against protesters telling his audience how he would like to see them “punched or maimed”. Encouraging his supporters to do so by promising to cover their legal fees if they get arrested…

My AP Literature teacher, Mr. Mercer, once asked my class a serious question: why do women apologize so much? A thoughtful pause followed while the class, females especially, pondered the answer. My teacher elaborated with a short anecdote about a female student from a previous class: Mr. Mercer was standing in front of the doorway before class, speaking with another student. The female student approached the doorway so Mr. Mercer and the student courteously moved out of the way. The female student nodded and uttered a quick “sorry” as she hustled past them.…

    Gender In Children

Since the beginning of time, there have been separate ideas about how men and women should act. These specific gender roles have been taught to the children which they carry with them throughout some of the most influential times in their lives especially in college. This is the first time young adults get to experience freedom in a sense that they are not under their parent’s constant supervision. Those college kids then take what they learned from their parents and combine it with what is shown in social media and how their fellow peers act. Unfortunately, this especially includes sex and men’s thoughts about women which during this time is mostly negative such as what was seen with the Harvard mens’ soccer team.…

After reading the article “The Atlantic” by James Fallows, I was shocked and at the same time amazed. The first thing that caught my attention was in the part where he said that culture can make a wealth country meagre. Then I was like,” how is that possible?” In this part, I disagreed with his intuitions that culture is a big NO for a country to gain wealth and to have a good economic progress. I believe that culture is a big part for a country to its economic success.…

In Sandra Cisneros’s article, Only Daughter, she writes about herself and how her father and society saw women in the 1990s. She begins her writing by mentioning that she had six brothers but even if she had six brothers, she was still lonely since her brothers were embarrassed to play with their sister. So when Cisneros suggested that she would attend college, her father was overjoyed because he thought that this was the perfect time for her to find a husband. But as years go by and finally finishing her second year in graduate school, she still hasn’t found a man to marry. Her father’s disappointment can only be summoned up by a few words, “I wasted all that education” (Cisneros).…

In summary, this speech is about how we, as people, are in need of leadership training. Men need to challenge other men to break the silence on sexual abuse, relationship abuse, and child abuse. If men stand up to each other this silence can be broken. This abuse can be diminished if men start considering this not just a women’s issue but a man’s as well. The concepts that are efficiently used in this speech are the rhetorical cannon of Monroe’s Sequence of Events, the use of non-factual sources, rhetorical devices, and clever attention getters.…
