Jones gave the courtesy to Roger of letting him use her sink to wash his face, she told him how she would never want to be seen with his face as dirty as it was. He became skeptical of her generous offers but accepted them anyways. As time went on and Mrs.Jones Began to talk about things other than the obvious issue, he began to open up and not want to run and escape as badly. Although he didn't want to run as badly he still had the instinct to run as shown in this quote, “Roger looked at the door—looked at the woman—looked at the door—and went to the sink” (Hughes 2).
It seemed as if he had gained complete trust in a women he had met less than 2 hours ago, ‘“Do you need somebody to go to the store,” asked the boy, “maybe to get some milk or something”’(Hughes 3). Her generosity and caring attitude taught him a lesson that stealing isn't needed I believe it changed him into becoming a better person.He became willing to run errands for her and help her if she needed help. He began to think why a person he had wronged was being so nice to him and taking the time out of her day to care for someone like him.
