“Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”, is a story that is told from a 9 year old girl named Cassie 's point-of-view. So whatever Cassie knows we know and sometimes since she is only nine is not that much. Taylor uses some literary techniques to help us understand what to look. One technique that she uses is when Cassie is getting lectures from Mama, Papa, and Uncle Hammer Taylor does this so that it give us insight into the book 'sdifferent messages. Another example of this at work in the novel is when Cassie overhears the adults talking at church about how the Berrys were attacked,

However, after reading through the novel more I realized that it allows anyone who is reading to have the experience along with Cassie. It also shows us how innocent she is and clueless to a certain degree, even though she 's shown to some pretty ugly reality. However it is a book that is written for kids or young adults, so one thing that could keep that age group entertained and engaged is having a young character telling the story. Even though Taylor has Cassie telling the story there is with out a doubt more going on behind the scenes like I mentioned earlier, when it comes to a passage or situation that only an adult would understand Mildred Taylor does a great job making it so that no audience is left with blinders on and that the younger audience still stays engaged. She makes this complicated because even though the book is being narrated by a 9-year old girl, there are events that happen in this book that a 9-year old might not understand why or how they
