Shawn talked about death in chapter 3. In chapter 3, Cindy’s mother ran over a dog. When this happened Cindy, Shawns sister ran out and the dog began to jerk. One is the relationship of Linda and his Sydney. Sydney left because he could handle Shawns condition. He also left because the doctors said that it is “almost” (51) impossible for shawn to have any awareness. That almost tore his father apart. There is struggle between Shawns parents and also his relationship with his father. Emotionally Shawn struggles because he knows that his dad loves him. He struggles with wondering if there is something he does not know about death. It is a scary feeling to not know what will happen to your future. Shawn is helpless in his decision. He isn’t able to tell his parents what he wants. He is living and able to function without having his parents know. He is trapped in a way, but he does not hate it as much as everyone may
