Stoddard, Valance, and Doniphon making up a visual triangle is something that I hadn’t noticed before you mentioned it Meredith. Interestingly enough, I think your analysis of how Stoddard is unable to understand western ideals in contrast to both Doniphon and Valance extends the usage of triangles in this film representatively within these characters. On the one hand I agree with what both of you have said. Like Hunter, I found the majority of scenes in the film to be lacking aesthetically as well. Much like Meredith, I don’t think the film was poorly shot, but I thought that Ford lacked a certain finesse that we’ve seen in other directors from this course.
