“Being a superstar means you’ve reached your potential, and I don’t think I’ve reached my potential as a basketball player and as a leader yet.” Stephen Curry, professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors, is the spokesperson for a one-on-one coaching company CoachUp. The most recent commercial advertisement to come out by CoachUp has Stephen Curry reading his scouting report from the 2009 NBA Draft. His readings are about how he will not be a dominant athlete in the NBA. The advertisement takes place in a dark gym with Stephen and one other person. His recent success has propelled him to the top of the NBA. Stephen Curry appeals to many young athletes, especially those who want to become a successful athlete like him. The effectiveness of this advertisement comes from the use of Stephen Curry and Drake through an ethos appeal. The pathos appeal gets to the audience’s emotions by explaining how Stephen was expected to be a below average NBA player, but has proven everyone wrong and has been very successful. The advertisement also includes logos by showing Stephen working on what the scouts said he needed to improve on as well as …show more content…
The dark gym with a little light coming through a window is the same way for the entirety of the advertisement. In the background, music by Drake continues to play while Stephen is working on his game with the CoachUp instructor. Stephen’s voice has a confident tone to it during the advertisement as he is reading his pre-draft scouting report. The most consistent part of the advertisement is Stephen improving what the report said he was not good at. This is the focal point of the advertisement, and it is why the advertisement is effective to the young athletic audience as well as the parents of those children. At the end of the commercial, they tie it back to the start by incorporating more of Drake’s song and putting the words in along with the
