Analysis Of Step Seven Of Kotter's Model

Decent Essays
Hi Dr. Boyd,
Some of these questions and techniques are part of step seven of Kotter’s model because the feedback sessions, professional reviews, and team-building activities provide I/O professionals with opportunities to curb any lingering resistance to change (Argosy University Online, 2017). As an I/O professional, I would ask the leaders questions about how they will address any future negatives that are related to the change. Offering guidance and support like coaching and feedback will assist in creating a successful change process (Jones, 2012).
Some fun change management exercises I would recommend to the leaders are “The Ups & Downs of Change” and the “Four Ps.” These exercises help groups understand their instinctive reactions

Discussion Board (Module 6 DB 5-3): Change Article Britton Lerch University of Iowa NURS 5002: Leadership and Management Essentials Dr. Bogue I like the article I chose by Varkey and Antonio (2010) because it talks about the importance of quality improvement processes necessary for organizations due to the advances in technology and medicine. In this article Varkey and Antonia (2010) begin with stating, “Technological and medical advancements have dramatically accelerated the speed of change in the realm of health care. New technology, the changing needs of patients, and economic pressures all contribute to the need for health organizations to modify practices continually” (p. 268). It is for these reasons that we anticipate and should embrace…

Change Model Using Kotter’s Change Process As the Sales and Marking Director for Sea Treasures, I will use Kotter’s eight-step change process to create an Internet Website to sell the large inventory of aquarium decorator items that are currently gathering dust in a stored warehouse. This will be a short-term, small scale change. Six months later, I will expand the Website to sell live sea creatures such as tropical fish and small sea turtles online, which is a long-term, large-scale change. Leaders are key to successful planning and implementation of change.…

Obviously, this won’t happen overnight and I’ll need a guide to help me. Thankfully, the Kotter model will assist in implementing my ideas and force change. The first step, establishing a sense of crisis, shouldn’t be that difficult as many in the formation already sense one. The NCO’s feel powerless, senior staff members seem unappreciated, and junior leaders lack recognition of the standards.…

I would hope that in my six years prior to being promoted to an assistant principal, I would have laid the foundation for positive relationships with the students, or at least some pocket of students. Additionally, I would think about the mindset of not necessarily the students, but the current faculty and staff and begin to measure the outlook that is currently in place. From here I would want to make changes that lead the community to a more positive mindset and outlook. Green (2013) states, “Effective leaders emphasized the development of interpersonal relationships while focusing on the personal needs of followers and the development of the kinds of relationships that would motivate followers to set and achieve high performance goals”.…

First of all, yes Kutter, your summary is a fair representation of what I was saying ... which is definitely a way of making your second point; namely, that it was reflection on theory w/ Taylor that changed my practice, rather immediately. And yes, I have been contemplating your larger question (about why some thoughts are immediately reflected in practice and others never seem to take hold) for some time. Taylor's idea of the "social imaginary" and his statement that it determines what practices are even possible ... that's really helped me.…

Good skills in communicating change contribute to the process and outcome of organizational change in terms of resistance problems (Paton and McCalman, 2008). Leaders need to communicate and create a context for the change, which is accord with the first step of establishing a sense of urgency of Kotter’s (1996) eight-step model. The critical element of this phase is for leader to gather as much information about external environment as possible (Burke, 2011) to obtain insight into the reason why such change is important and needed. Specifically, Carp and Perez should firstly make effort to master information such as changing technology in the industry and what competitors such as Canon, Epson are up to, etc., then to evaluate those information and set up short-term goal, before jumping into the change process too quickly. It is the leader’s responsibility to prepare for organization change as thoroughly as possible, to determine how to respond to the external environment change and how to build a more effective alignment for the corporation (Burke, 2011).…

Prior to this class I believed that managing and leading were synonymous and that a manager is automatically considered a leader. However, I have learned that a leader is not someone who just checks things off a list but much more. I still believe that a leader is someone that completes tasks and has managerial skills to get the job done but also can be much more influential. I believe that good leadership in any field will make the people involved much more productive and will overall have a greater impact on overcoming adversity. After concluding this class I believe that leadership can be defined as influencing people to complete the tasks they are confronted with while thoroughly giving them motivation and guidance.…

It is important that the message be sent loud and clear to all employees within the organization that the change must be attacked with an extreme sense of urgency. It is also important for the top level of the organization to have a realistic plan in implementing change. Many times top level management overestimates how many big changes they can force early on. They also underestimate how hard it is to drive people out of their comfort zones (Kotter, 1996). In order to achieve this management must create a powerful…
