The purpose of history is to show us our past mistakes and successes. History shows how our ancestors responded to situations, and history tends to repeat itself, only in different forms. We learned from the Treaty of Versailles that if you create an economic and power vacuum in a country, evil will take root. The depression caused by the Treaty of Versailles in Germany led to the rise of the Nazi party and Hitler. After World War II, the United States should have learned that lesson, but even if we did, we did not act on it. When the U.S. killed Osama Bin Laden, and dismantled a large part of the leadership of Al Qaeda, we left a power vacuum. The leaders of the U.S. almost immediately began to pull troops out, which led to the rise of ISIS. History should serve to teach us how to act in situations, but when the names and the places change, our egos get a hold of us and we think we can try the exact same thing, and it will work this time. History has a purpose, but people make that purpose blurred and
