Even though the inquiry and write up was good, there is a way that the paper could have been great. Evaluation When performing the experiment, the pill bugs were generally unresponsive, and many stayed in the same place throughout the whole experiment. Outside of this, no major problems occurred while performing the experiment. If the experiment were to be performed again, more of the IV (baking soda, rubbing alcohol, etc.) would be added to produce a more pronounced effect on the pill bugs, as most pillbugs did not move at all. The results are mostly trustworthy and accurate, as the data is backed up by the research done prior to the experiment. Conversely, more trials could have been performed as experiments with living organisms tend to need a larger sample size.…

This experiments purpose is to study the effects of manmade chemicals on daphnia. By observing 2-3 daphnia in 4 different environments I rated each Daphnia magna on a scale of 0 to 5 on how it affected their health. I averaged each of the daphnia’s heath based on their behavior and apperence. One pure water, then three other environments exposed to antifreeze, pesticides, and cigarette ash. After observing each environment for 30 minutes I discovered that cigarette ash is the most toxic to daphnia I rated their health at a 0 and antifreeze is the only chemical I tested that didn’t result in death I rated the daphnia exposed to antifreeze at a 2 due to the change in appearance and downfall of health .…

The overall purpose of this lab was to determine what kind of meats were present inside of Taco Bell’s sausage crumbles and to find out if there was any misleading labeling in the popular product. Our hypothesis was that we would find various types of meat present in the sausage such as pork, beef, and chicken. Our results supported our hypothesis. According to our data, the sausage was composed of pork or pig that came from the Sus genus. There was no other type of animal present in the sausage other than pig.…

When one’s only focus is on the conclusion, or the answer, the process of learning, and possibly the point is totally missed. Without inquiry, there is no story, but a list of conclusions. Both Stephen Jay Gould, and Sherman Alexie explore this idea, that the conclusions are the consequence, not the essence, in their essays, Sex, Drugs, and the Extinction of the Dinosaurs, and Superman and Me. While Stephen Jay Gould did not specifically address writing as a mode of inquiry in his…

In poems “The Lighters” and “Nursing,” Rennie McQuilkin articulates the variety and complexity of his feelings towards the sickening and passing of his mother. To vividly illustrate his sentimental attachments, McQuilkin extensively and effectively utilizes literary techniques such as contrasts, diction, and allusions in these two poems, leaving an accessible yet woeful depiction of his desperation and resignation in response to his mother’s suffering. McQuilkin frequently employs sharp contrasts to emphasize the significance and gravity of his language. For instance, in “The Lighters,” the elderly woman’s resolute decision of discarding her precious possessions of china and mementos is immediately contrasted with her cautious preservation…

This assignment seemed just like any other. There was a deadline and guidelines and goals that were going to dictate the structure of it. I, however, didn’t know that I was wrong, and it was going to be far from any other. I have a habit, a detrimental one, that was slowly being fed and reassured as “ok” the more and more I went through my schooling. That habit has a name, procrastination, yet I never saw it as a problem because with every assignment and paper I wrote the night before and was able to get a decent grade, there was this unconscious signal that reassure me that if done once, it could be done again.…

In the article, “My enemy’s enemy is my friend” it talks about a case study done at the University of Texas by two people of the name Elliot Arson and Vernon Cope to test a hypothesis that people will like people who dislike the same person as them, or like someone if they like the same people as them. This runs off of the theory that some people may believe that because they share the liking or disliking of someone that they are similar people with the same values and beliefs, this can be derived from the balance theory. When considered, this hypothesis is easily thought of to be accurate. With this hypothesis, there can be many other hidden factors that can play into these situations.…
