Have you ever wondered what it would be like losing both of your parents, and have the one important thing in your life go missing? Well, this horrible scenario happened to Mickey Bolitar in the book Shelter, by Harlan Coben. In this book Mickey has moved from town to town all his life, but his parents have decided to settle in a small town in New Jersey, to finish out high school. At the activity for new students Mickey meets a girl named Ashley and soon gains lots of feelings for her and cares about her to a great extent, but soon after Mickeys dad had an awful fate in a car accident and his mom was taken to rehab, Ashley disappears. Two of the biggest relations I noticed was to the show Scream Queens. In that show there is one crazy guy (the Red Devil) that does horrible things to people on a college campus, to make them do what the Red Devil wanted them to, and if they refused to he would murder them. This is just like Shelter, because in the book there is a bad guy who takes vulnerable girls who can’t fight back, and uses them as white slavery, and if they don’t do what is said or try to escape, like Ashley did, he would torture them. These are alike because they both line up in the lines of a bad guy not treating people right. Another connection I realized from Shelter to Scream Queens was that in Scream Queens four people, three girls and one guy, went out searching for the Red Devil, and in Shelter, just like Scream Queens, four people went out looking for Bobby Ray. Something else that I realized related to Shelter was the show Riverdale. In the show there is a murderer, that they call the Black Hood, who is very dangerous. Just like how Buddy Ray is in Shelter. A further example of how Riverdale and Shelter relate is in the show the Black Hood has distinct green eyes just like the ambulance driver who tried to kill Bat Lady does in the book. I think that I like all of these shows and book because they all three are pretty similar, and make you stay on your toes, want to keep reading
