Planned Parenthood Video Analysis

The first source that I will be analyzing is the YouTube video, “Senator Elizabeth Warren: I stand with Planned Parenthood”. The video was uploaded to YouTube on August 3, 2015, and it in on the Senators personal YouTube channel. In the video Senator Warren addresses the senate floor about the defunding of Planned Parenthood, she discusses how republicans have been trying for years to defund Planned Parenthood and reasons that defunding Planned Parenthood is wrong. Her main point is that Planned Parenthood takes care of women’s health and that men should not have an opinion in women’s bodies. She also addresses that the reason that this bill was created was not in reaction to the videos of Planned Parenthood employees saying that they sold …show more content…
The web article was published September 17, 2015 but was updated a day later, the author is Laura Bassett and it was uploaded to Huffpost Politics, a separate branch of Huffington post. The article includes a short write up and a two minute video of reporters talking about the defunding of Planned Parenthood. In the video Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani introduces the topic of the bills and that if they pass congress that the President would veto them, then showing a quote from the President. After than she asks a Political reporter form the Washington Post, Janell Ross, if she believes that the bills will pass congress and that is the discussion that takes place for the rest of the video. In the Article it discusses how President Obama, “strongly opposes and would veto a pair of House bills that would strip federal funds from Planned Parenthood and impose new restrictions on abortion.” The article then goes on to discuss what the effects of each bill would have on Planned Parthood and abortion if passed. Since this is an article it is trying to keep bias out so a main appeal that is used is logic but I believe ethos is used too. They give information about the bills, the President, and the republicans, so it seems that they are getting all sides of the conversation and are not trying to sway the reader’s minds but using ethos they might have done just that. …show more content…
The author of the article is Jaeah Lee and the article was published on March 14, 2013. The article’s main focus is in Texas and what happens when Planned Parenthood is defunded. At that time Texas legislators had slashed fund for family planning services so Planned Parenthood was largely affected. The article contains a video of Texans rallying behind Planned Parenthood in support, trying to convince others not to defund it. The article contains a lot of information with graphs and charts to appeal to reader’s logic. This appeal to logos is quite successful because not only do they use statistics in the article but show the effect that the defunding has had on many aspects of clinics and Planned Parenthood. This article is different because it is older but also because it relies so heavily on logos for the article. The video is more of a pathos appeal but the article is just trying to show people the negative effects defunding Planned Parenthood can

In the Bellingham Planned Parenthood works a 55-year-old nurse practitioner named Kaylene. To protect her family from being persecuted and to protect her profession, Kaylene’s last name is withheld. From her soft grey hair to her sneaker-clad feet she exudes a motherly aura and speaks with a touch of a Midwestern accent. One would never think that in order for her to go into work she has to walk through a group of shouting protestors that call her a “baby killer” or that quite a few family members have deserted her. The challenges she faces are not new, the stigma surrounding Planned Parenthood has been there for a very long time.…

Taxes contributed to Planned Parenthood pay for women to be tested for cancer, STD’s, and most importantly receive affordable reproductive health care when necessary. Saying things like “taxpayer dollars” and “harvesting baby parts” create an incriminating image of Planned Parenthood in the audience’s mind rather than an accurate one. Let’s break this down; for one, “taxes”-because everyone hates taxes, especially when they’re being wasted, that’s the American public’s hard earned money. Secondly, “harvesting baby parts” is one of the worst statements I personally have ever heard, what audiences need to understand is that scientifically speaking…

Planned Parenthood should not lose any funding or be shut down. Despite recent abortion controversies, Planned Parenthood should not be held responsible for pro-abortion advocates. The organization is pro-choice, and intends to give the choice back to the people in order to allow them to choose a better life for themselves. If Planned Parenthood loses its funding or gets shut down, people everywhere, but especially low-income families, will be put in a difficult standing in affordable health care and wellness. Furthermore, shutting down Planned Parenthood would put many people at a greater health risk than they have now, and worst yet, it will not end abortion.…

She not only spoke with Trump about honoring campaign promises to gut Planned Parenthood, she reportedly talked how that Trump would go down as the only president in American history to be brave enough to defund the world's largest abortion provider. Insiders say as November midterm elections near, the administration should push for hot topic campaign issues that will energize voters. Sources are reportedly telling Trump that with the House of Representatives and Senate in play this year, the administration would be very wise to fight for defunding Planned Parenthood. Of course, it's much bigger than just a political issue. Trump has been reportedly speaking with top members of the administration and his family about the issue.…

The problem I have chosen to identify falls within the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Once again this issue has become a heated debate among the republican and democratic members of congress. The democrats in the senate as well as President Obama are being blamed for any government shutdown that may occur due to their persistence in protecting the services provided and the funding allocated by the federal government that is legal as well as ethical. Planned Parenthood has been a financial supporter of Obama’s presidential campaign in the past, which republicans say proves that some type of corruption is now taking place between the two entities. The major accusation that Planned Parenthood has been accused of is profiting from the sale of aborted fetal tissue and by promoting this practice, increases the number of abortions that are being performed without offering any other type of solution to the unwanted pregnancy.…

Many people are under the impression that Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue for profit (Chris Ostendorf). However, this is a gross misrepresentation of the ideas that Planned Parenthood embodies. Planned Parenthood is often scrutinized because they perform abortions and provide abortion services, when in reality, they are so much more. Providing for men and women, Planned Parenthood is a diverse source of health care. Planned Parenthood was founded October 16, 1916 as a “nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services in the United States and internationally (Wikipedia).…

The most common, and vocal, rational GOP has for the federal government defunding Planned Parenthood is because they offer abortion services, which goes against their ethical beliefs; but in reality, Planned Parenthood actually prevents more abortions than it carries out. Out of the numerous services that Planned Parenthood offers the public, only three percent of all of their procedures are abortions; meaning that ninety-seven percent of everything they do is basic health care and other medical services. Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, lists the statistics in her article, Today, We Fight Back, “every year, 2.7 million people come through the doors of our health centers, a million people participate in our sex education…

Women’s rights has been an issue in the United States since the early 1800’s and until all people are comfortable discussing the fact that in many parts of the world, women have no say in what they can do with their bodies or how it’s treated. A woman should be the only one who can decide what is best for her body. There is only so much that women can do when the one place that helps women with checkups and abortion based questions, Planned Parenthood, is being defunded or closed down. “The House of Representatives is expected to pass a budget reconciliation bill that guts the Affordable Care Act, pulls roughly $450 million in federal assistance from Planned Parenthood and prevents Medicaid recipients from getting reimbursed…
