Personal Narrative In Sarah Dessen's Dreamland

Picture waking up on your sixteenth birthday, only to find out your sister has run away to be with her boyfriend in New York. All she left behind is a note and your crying, worried parents. That is the situation in which Caitlin O’Koren found herself in Sarah Dessen’s Dreamland. Caitlin and Cass, her sister, were extremely close, but Caitlin did not have any idea she was leaving, nor did anyone else in her life. All of her family and friends were in shock that Cass, who seemed to lead a perfect life, and would have been going to Yale in the weeks to come, would leave her whole life behind. She had Rina, her best friend, to help her through her troubles, but she could only do so much After Cass left, Caitlin met the mysterious Rogerson Biscoe, who made her feel like everything in her life was right and perfect. Caitlin became very closed off from her family and friends, but nobody realized what was happening due to being worried about Cass. She continued to go out with Rogerson, despite the bruises that would follow. If Cass had not left, Caitlin would not have felt the need to date Rogerson in order to believe her world was perfect. If Catilin did not meet Rogerson, she never would have gotten hurt by him and her grades and life would not have slipped away right before her. Lastly, without Rina, she would not have been able to overcome her problems with both Cass and Rogerson. Therefore, if these events in Dreamland by Sarah Dessen never took place, the story would have been greatly changed.
