Analysis Of Sarah Bessey´s Jesus Feminist

After attending the sit down discussion with Sarah Bessey, I realized how much a writer can benefit from his or her own writing. Sarah explains that when she writes, it helps her understand theology in more depth. She has reached out to millions of people through her book, “Jesus Feminist”. In this book, she makes the argument for women’s importance in the church. When the interviewer asked her how she becomes inspired, she simply stated that her inspiration comes with her continual journey with Jesus. She explained her up and down story of relationship, and writing to a small audience about very opinionated topics. At one point it was so difficult that she broke down into tears after attending a workshop with various publishers that simply told her she would not be able to get published. From her standpoint, evolving is crucial to a steadfast relationship with the Lord. In her opinion, when she continually questioned the church, and various views she found herself growing closer to what god had called for her. She began writing blogs after college, meanwhile only graduating with a marketing degree. Her initial blogs were very controversial, about topics of Feminism and Purity culture. In these blogs she often found man critics and few followers. When she first wrote her own book, her creativity flourished. Her creativity spoke to many people. From the controversial discussions of sex before marriage to women leadership in the church; Sarah Bessey has certainly widened many people’s views. She initially wrote much about purity in today’s culture. Often times in the church people put too much emphasis on purity that it is condemning to those who have struggled. The fact that you are not a virgin may make you feel not worthy of an honorable marriage. In fact, many pastors in Sarah’s life spoke to her in such condemning ways that she chose to investigate these topics further. The consensus in one of her blogs was simply that you do need to repent and understand your mistakes. It is even reasonable to understand the guilt involved with sexual relations before marriage. However, holding this impurity over your head is not what the Lord may have intended. Anyone can come to the Father in repentance and still have a happy and successful marriage.
