Jody Williams joined several civil society groups to talk to them about what has been going on in Mexico. Williams talks about how the people of Mexico are treated badly and how they have no value, Williams says “Mexico usually does the right thing when it comes to international agreements, but when it comes to inside Mexico, it treats people like they have no value (Justice).” The women who were assaulted and part of this case were very poorly treated and did not deserve to be treated that way. Most of the women were in prison for a little over two years. When the last of them were released about 11 of them filed complaints about being raped by the police officers and the other sexual assaults performed on them. At first their recommendation was rejected by the Federal Attorney General of the Republic so they them submitted it to the National Commission of Human Rights. After that an investigation was started soon after their complaints were submitted to try and give the women the justice that they deserve.
Throughout Moreno’s time in prison, she became very close friends with Norma. Once out of prison she even stated, “I did not know Norma before, and now I cannot imagine my life without her. She is my sister (Freedom.)” Moreno was very lucky to meet Norma at the exact time she did, if she would not have met her she may not be alive today. Norma was the person, who throughout their time in prison, gave her the motivation to keep going and not give
