In children with CP, it can be difficult to dress and undress due to unwanted movements caused by stiffness related to tone. I would demonstrate a tapping method on the triceps in order to release the flexor tone of the biceps making it easier for her to slide on his shirt. I would suggest to Ryan’s mother to roll him from side to side during dressing so there is limited time in a position to become stiff or push back into extension. Positioning Ryan in sideline can make overhead dressing, putting …show more content…
However, the strength is caused by the excessive extensor tone. As Ryan bears weight on his legs, the tone becomes very more severe. The reflex is predominately present and takes over when he is placed in standing. His pelvis is most likely to be unstable and his legs are likely to be internally rotated and adducted. The infant walker places Ryan in a non-preferred position similarly to the jolly jumper. I would instruct Ryan’s mother to put Ryan in a standing position that encouraged good alignment of his hips and legs. This would encourage improve weight bearing for proper development of the lower extremities muscles. Even though money can be a limitation for Ryan to receive the best interventions, I would advocate to his family and medical supply companies that a standing frame would highly benefit Ryan. This frame would provide proper alignment and positioning of his legs to bear weight and prevent the positive standing reflex leading to excessive extensor
