Analysis Of Revolutionizing Revolution By Jennifer Moon

Sustainability is a value many people share, but is difficult to achieve. One person who has an interesting take on the idea of sustainability is Jennifer Moon in her video, “Revolutionizing Revolution.” She argues that revolution does not come from surplus, but it comes from lack. I believe that Moon’s unorthodox opinions and presentation style, such as presenting to an empty theatre or her abundant usage of pictures, really brings attention to her ideas about sustainability and really boost her framework and message, helping her viewers understand the points she is trying to get across. When watching this video, it is necessary to watch until the end because there is a big plot twist. Moon, throughout the whole presentation is talking to nobody, but her style really makes it seem as if she is having a hearty conversation with the crowd throughout the whole video. She also uses an abundance of pictures, some random, but some are very meaningful while helping her convey her ideas about sustainability. She also implements fake clapping sounds at times. These unorthodox and uncommonly practiced style really highlights and fits perfectly with her unorthodox opinions about sustainability. She says, “Most people think that revolution comes from conflict, inequality, a feeling of lack, or that I don’t have enough of something, …show more content…
She says, “If I believe that I have everything that I will ever need already, all of a sudden, I become present” (Moon). I don’t agree with this statement because it promotes arrogance, something unnecessary for sustainability or revolution. She is saying that we need to believe we have everything, when we don’t, and I don’t think trying to convince yourself you have everything will work. I am a firm believer in getting to business and actually doing the work than thinking around it. I implement this style through my work at my volunteering

However, she very intentionally goes on what seems to be an irrelevant tangent at first, but however soon becomes clearly very important. Brown brings up a situation every person can rather easily relate to on different levels, the hypothetical of being told “thirty-seven things you do really awesome, and one thing - an ‘opportunity for growth?’” and explaining how the single piece of constructive criticism occupies your mind much more than the obviously larger praise, and that this applies heavily to those she interviews, saying “when you ask people about love, they tell you about heartbreak,” “when you ask people about belonging, they’ll tell you their most excruciating experiences of being excluded,” and “when you ask people about connection, the stories they told me were about disconnection” (Brown). This is a powerful moment, as it allows the audience to reflect upon similar situations to the vague premises Brown proposes, and connect more with her speech. The emotional connections made here prompt the audience hangs on her every word as the talk…

In this week's reading Howard Zinn, chose to name the chapter “A Kind of Revolution” because it was a revolution that had a variety of class structure. The poor and white fought together in war, but the poor were seeking different economic opportunities to free themselves and having a little bit of power. However, the revolution was dominated by the powerful and wealthy who use the poor to get the most power for their state. “ Jefferson tried his best, as an enlightened, thoughtful individual might. But the structure of American society, the power of the cotton plantation, the slave trade, politics of unity between northern and southern elites, and the long culture..race prejudice… throughout his life,” said Zinn.…
