Lisa Miller, a writer for the New York Times who wrote the article, “Remembrances of Lives Past,” argues that reincarnation is growing and is very real. Miller’s main purpose with this article is to inform readers with many detailed situations that other people have experienced, that reincarnation is very well happening every day. The attended audience would be towards anyone who needs to be informed on what reincarnation is because not a lot of people think it actually happens. Miller even brought up how Julia Roberts believes she was a “peasant revolutionary” in her past life. Both of these are forms of logos and ethos. Logos for the first one because Miller is pulling a statistic that now almost every person in the world believes in reincarnation. When saying that in such an informative tone, the reader is going to strongly believe that reincarnation is happening because everyone else believes it. Especially with this being steered to the younger audience, they want to be like everyone else, so this helps Miller’s case even more. With the second regarding Julia Robert’s, that is going to prove the biggest point in Miller’s article because now she is bringing in a celebrity Icon into the mix and everyone will agree with what she is saying.
