In the movie, Regarding Henry, cut throat defense attorney, Henry Turner experiences a life changing tragedy that complicates his already hectic life. Having to start from scratch, Henry struggles to navigate through his new life while trying to get a sense of who he really is. His battle with his “Id” and “Superego” because a main conflict in the development of the story. By the end of the story, Henry's predicament turns out to be a blessing in disguise for him and his family. Throughout the movie, Henry’s “Id” or instinctual side is exemplified the most. The film begins in a courtroom where Henry is defending a hospital against a man who died at the hands of their staff. Of course, the hospital is responsible for the man’s death, however, because it’s Henry's job that he wins the case, he lies despite knowing the truth. Henry’s use of his irrational side overlaps into his personal life when he yells at his daughter. Even though he “apologizes” to her, it's very lackluster and he makes the issue …show more content…
The once stoic and selfish man that Henry was blossomed to be a more caring and thoughtful man that was waiting to get out. Henry becomes much more spontaneous by going on shopping sprees and even showing affection to his wife in public (which he never used to do). Although a better part of his “Id” was displayed, Henry’s “Superego” prevailed in many scenes through this last half of the film. He’s much more aware of other people's feelings rather than his own, and he even tries to make up for the things he's done wrong in the past. In one particular scene, Henry visits the wife of the man who died in the case he worked in the beginning of the movie. He gives the wife the proof she needs to make a solid case against the hospital for the wrongful death of her husband. This was the turning point in the film where Henry solidifies his personality and begins living for
