Take me to these lanterns and return me home safe. Then and only then, will I return your satchel" (Greno & Howard, 2010). Ultimately, Rapunzel sees this as the perfect exchange in which they both will benefit and get what they want. In her defense, she has been relentlessly trying to convince Mother Gothel, who is very passive-aggressive with Rapunzel, to take her to see the “floating lanterns” with no success. In addition, Rapunzel’s “open area” is the fact that these lanterns only occur, annually-on her birthday. Moreover, she cannot wait another 18 years for someone to stumble across her secluded tower. Therefore, Rapunzel is desperate and in need of an escort to see the "floating lanterns” and her incarcerated intruder is the perfect candidate to assist. Of course, she may sound self-centered along with manipulative toward Flynn Ryder to try to get what she wants out of him. In contrast, this is completely out of her character. Again, she could have been a little nicer, but she did not know how else she would get to see the floating lanterns. I know it sound juvenile, but if I could be one character from a movie it would be Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. At the end of the animated movie, Rapunzel is reunited with her parents the King and Queen of Corona and the audience sees the whole family dancing in the middle of the square with all of the citizens. I know it is every little girl’s dream, but I have always wanted to be a Princess. When you are a princess, you get to live happily ever after with a wonderful prince and you never have to worry about taxes, college, or getting a job. Princesses are also listened to; they have the power to really change what they think is unjust in the world.…

Based on the what was learned about trust in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, trust is the most basic trait needed in everyday life. Without it, things cannot set into motion. Aslan is portrayed as a great ruler of Narnia, kind and merciful, just as lions were known to be in medieval folklore. He is trusted by the inhabitants of Narnia to lead them out of the Witch’s evil rule. The fact that C.S. Lewis was expressing his opinions and showing the value of trust in the story through the characters is shown in my interpretation of the several events in the…

Thompson explains what exactly the Dunbar number is when he describes how Robin Dunbar argued that humans have a limit to how many people he or she can know personally. Dunbar figured that the human limit of social connections would be around 150 people, and he was right, but now the number might be changing thanks to social media (588). Thompson reports about his findings from interviews with people who excessively use social media, “Many maintained that their circle of true intimates, their very close friends and family, had not become bigger” (588). While people’s deep connections with people had not grown, the number of “weak ties” they had with people grew greatly. The people that you would meet once or twice and forget about are now showing up on your News Feed and reminding you that they still exist.…

Many examples show princesses saving men from life-threatening situations. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel reverses gender roles and saves her prince, Eric from drowning. Also, at the end of Tangled, Rapunzel cuts her hair in order to save Flynn (her lover) from dying.…

Over time, it has been evident that Disney has promoted a different message within their princess movies, which is a shift in rhetoric. At first, the princess movies displayed unrealistic goals for young girls and now, there is a paradigm of different princesses that set an example for those who have goals and wish to achieve them. From a classical princess such as Aurora to a modern one such as Elsa, the messages are displayed in the princesses goals and obstacles. Prior to Frozen and other movies alike, Disney princesses all had one common goal: to fall in love. Aurora met her prince in the forest and instantly fell in love.…

No author is better celebrated in the fairytale world today than the Grimm brothers, whose publication of countless preexisting fairytales marked the fairytale genres transition from storytelling into literary text. Recognized as the standard source upon which our societies knowledge of German folklore is based (The Reception of Grimm Fairy Tales), the final edition of their work published remains ever present an influence for both readers and collectors alike. Yet, the translation of their work that remains in publication and is praised by society today is not how they originally intended for their work to appear. When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their first edition of a two-volume set of German fairytales titled “Children and Household Tales” in 1812, they didn’t shy from intensifying the gore and sexual intrigue that the stories they collected already exhibited. Originally voiced in a manor that would teach critical lessons and pass on cultural values and wisdom to younger generations, fairytales were crafted into dark and impressive stories meant to frighten children into compliance (Societies Influence on Grimms Fairytales).…

Rapunzel is very famous for having her long blonde hair, and because she "let down her hair" to the prince to scape her tower. In the movie there were many elements changed from the fairy tale.…

When girls are older they want to find their true love then create their family,” which reinforces the fairy tale love stereotype that girls need to wait for their prince then fall immediately in love with him, with the reverse being true for boys(60). An example of this is seen in the story of Rapunzel, where she is locked in a tower and a romantic prince comes to rescue her, where they end up falling madly in love. An ideal of love passed through this story is that your dream prince will come find you or that if you are a male you should go find your princess idly waiting for you. The story of Rapunzel also adds to the idea that women should be passive and wait for their prince to come and take them far away and men have to go out and rescue their princess. Another inaccurate portrayal of love is true love at first sight, which is seen in the story of Sleeping Beauty, where Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip stumble upon each other and then fall madly in love at first sight.…
