To me this book is all about courage, it starts with Hassan and the way he would stand up for Amir when they were kids like, when Hassan pointed the slingshot at Assef and his friends when they were threatening Amir. Then when Amir has grown up he goes back and Hassan's son who has lost his parents due to the Taliban shoots Assef in the eye when he was hurting Amir. The third moment of great courage in the book is when Amir stands up for Sohrab when General Taheri calls Sohrab a Hazara boy. When Hassan and Amir were friends they were close, Amir would read Hassan stories, and even though Hassan was Amir's servant they still hung out all of the time, they would fly kites together and go to movies. If there was ever any trouble Hassan always would take care of it, one day Hassan and Amir were walking together when Assef and some of his friends who were all extremely mean started picking on Amir, for hanging out with Hassan. Amir never said a word and Hassan was the one who got Assef and his friends to leave, by pointing his slingshot at Assef.
