Moving Forward The famous author Lewis B. Smedes once stated “forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future” (Brainy Quotes). This quote relates to Quinsqueas Solis’s view of life and how she has something to tell others about her life’s journey. Her unforgettable past all started when she was sixteen years old. “He came up from behind me and kissed me” (116). I was not okay with how inappropriately he was touching me, despite all my efforts to push him away he was significantly stronger than me. Being so young and terrified I had no idea what to do. I lived with a friend in her dorm room until I could save enough money from waitressing to live on my own. I worked all most every single day so I was able to create relationships with the regular customers. One of the guys flirted with me and always stayed after hours. He would walk me back to my dorm in the pitch black. I wanted to find a guy but “it was difficult, because of my past, to trust him” (118). After several attempts to push him away he now is the father of my two children. Consequently, from not trusting guys I learned I couldn 't trust him and we are now separated. I am able to support myself and our boys on our divorce settlement. My responsibility in life was to teach my boys how to treat girls. I would never let them lay a finger on anyone. Now they have moved out and are living on their own. I hope because of my past that they have learned what consequences the victims suffer after being …show more content…
We have all seen what the consequences of the Nazis and we have seen the triumphs of America. The United States of America would not be a strong and dominating country if it weren’t for others teaching the plusses and minuses of historical events. We know that we don’t want a leader like Hitler. One important history lesson is that we need to explore the world. If it weren’t for ambitious explorers we wouldn’t have found this amazing country thousands of immigrants travel to. Whether they come here for a better life or to find a job they too want to learn from
