The book that made a lasting impression on me and shaped the person who I am today is “Quiet Strength” by Tony Dungy. I have read this book multiple times throughout my life, the first time being when I was 13 and my mother suggested I read the book as I was selected captain of my middle school basketball team. Every time I read this book, I take a new perspective on life and take away a new quote that I try to apply to my life.

One quote that stuck with me from my most recent read through, which occurred in fall of 2015, is: “It’s about the journey — mine and yours — and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave, and the world we can change for the better.” As a growing student leader, this statement was so powerful. Three books I have read for pleasure are The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and Flight by Sherman Alexie. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao made evident multiple things, one would have to be “that this world there’s somebody who will always love you” meaning no matter what you're going through as a minority get up and be successful because theirs always a person who will always love you. The Four Agreements made evident to me that one's life can drastically turn because of one's words, personality, and/or assumptions. As Ruiz provides us with examples of everyday wrongs and rights guiding the readers from what’s right and wrong. Flight helped me realize that one is able to control their…

Outside of school I generally enjoy reading non fiction books, mostly within the world of sports. I like to read about these stories, which have central themes of hard work, endurance, and teamwork. These inspiring books focus on people who defy the odds of their current situations and rise to high levels of success. The last book I read was War Room by Michael Holly. The book focused on how 3 men, Bill Belichick, Scott Pioli, and Thomas Dimittroff, stuck to an idea of how to build a football team through much scrutiny and eventually won several championships.…

Introduction: I choose John c. Maxwells’ Be all you can be because it spoke out to me the most. When looking through the list of books the others did not look as appealing, and frankly kind of boring. But majority of the time I’m just too shy to peruse my dream and when I laid eyes on this book I knew It was for me.…

Being the best-selling book of all time, I can understand why it has earned that rank. Out of the many books that have shaped partially who I am, how I think, and how I behave, I think that the Bible deserves to be recognized as the one book that has transformed who I have become.
