Register to read the introduction… It is important that the message be sent loud and clear to all employees within the organization that the change must be attacked with an extreme sense of urgency. It is also important for the top level of the organization to have a realistic plan in implementing change. Many times top level management overestimates how many big changes they can force early on. They also underestimate how hard it is to drive people out of their comfort zones (Kotter, 1996). In order to achieve this management must create a powerful …show more content…
By creating short-term wins early and often, management will increase motivation and morale throughout the change. When employees achieve goals they need to be recognized and awarded. This will drive a positive competition amongst the workforce. These gains need to be consolidated and more changes need to be produced. By the time companies get to step seven they need to avoid complacency by consolidating changes and producing more change. Employees who have been successful need to be promoted and developed further in order to drive change. Keeping things interesting by creating new projects will reinvigorate the process. This will increase the credibility of the change vision and keep things moving in the right direction. Now the change vision must be anchored into the culture of the company. Finally, step eight is where the change vision is anchored into the culture. Implementing more and better leadership as well as articulating the connections between new behaviors and organizational success will help anchor the change vision (Kotter, 1996). Employees will have a more persistent sense of urgency. They will constantly be on the lookout for problems and opportunities and complacency will be virtually nonexistent. This level of urgency will require state of the art information systems in order to be successful. Along with persistent sense of urgency, companies will display teamwork at the top. The organization of the future will employ people that can create and communicate the vision. The companies will do a better job of developing leadership and allowing more risk-taking by their employees. Employees will experience more broad-based empowerment. They will be a critical component of change implementation. The management culture in the organization of the twenty-first century will be well-trained and prepared to take challenges head on.
