When reading this book, it takes you into a whole nother world, and makes it seem like you are right there with Yanek. The book shows you what it means to step up to the plate when needed. Also, it teaches the reader how to face problems head on. One moment in the story that taught me a lesson, was when Yanek lost his parents to the Nazis, but he still wanted to survive. This showed me that you should never give up. If i were put in that situation, i most likely would have given up. This book also showed me the importance of hard work. In the concentration camps, the men and women worked so hard everyday so they could get a chance to survive. In today's society, people who work hard to try make good lives for themselves, just as the Jewish people did. “Additionally, one act of bravery that stuck out to me was “ if you hurry to the parade grounds trying not to get shot he would shoot at you on purpose. … You had to hope that he didn’t notice y” (67). This quote shows bravery because everyday one jew was shot, ad Yanek still managed to be brave and walk through the “shooting range”
