Preventive stage focuses on the health of individuals, communities and populations in an aim to protect, promotes and maintain health in a way to prevent disease, disability, and death (Oranye, 2016a). At the primary level of prevention is done by identifying the potential risk factors that have the potential to be changed to prevent disease or health condition from occurring (Oranye, 2016a). An occupational therapist may see the non-beneficial occupation of Frank’s smoking as a potential factor that could be changed and may substitute the occupation for another occupation that does not have high risk factor for his health.
