Modern times call for modern ideology. Everyday there seems to be a growing rate at which gender is categorized in a strict fashion. Author and professor of USC and Notre Dame, Mary Celeste Kearney has a vast amount of research to help break those lines. She wrote Pink Technology: Mediamaking Gear for Girls, an article in which she entails the way society see the way girls should be utilizing things that are geared towards “boys.” Her current role as associate professor of film, television, and the GeNDer Studies program allows her to share her findings. Mary Kearney focuses primarily on educating and studying gender and media culture. In the article Pink Technology, it goes into detail on how companies market their products to different genders with a suppression of quality. Heidi Dangelmaier is a female game designer and advocate for better strategies to market products than to have the same “sterile righteous stereotypical girl stuff” (P.2) Companies like to make things girly just for the sake of selling more appealing products while maintaining minimal advance in a particular product. The same would happen to Daisy Rock Girl Guitars. The company created a guitar especially for girls. But it also sacrificed a bit of quality. They made various versions of girl-friendly styles of guitars. A lot of this production of products seems to only be there to keep girls happy and sell more products. It does not seem that the companies really wish to help change the ways of gender scripting. They only seem to want to create a hard line the way products are marketed.
