Have you ever failed a test when you studied very hard for it? Don’t you think it is a fallacious idea to be judged by your score, but not your perseverance? In the article, “The Winning Edge”, author Peter Doskoch argues that perseverance is more important than talent, or intelligence. There are billions of people that are being judged by their test and quiz scores, but not by their hard work. This habitual practice is all around American education, despite its wrongness. This wrongness that scores are more important, than hard work makes people to eschew grit. In my opinion, children should be honored for the grit they put into a work, not with the scores they get. I think that American education should honor kids who show perseverance in …show more content…
If a student failed a test, and the teacher never taught about perseverance then that student is eventually going to give up in everything. In American education perseverance should come in first than anything, because that is the key to intelligence. To illustrate this, as Albert Einstein said “ Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all facts” this quote conveys that a person should never give up, and will eventually be successful than the intelligent person. People who have perseverance in themselves never quit in anything and they just keep on trying until they get whatever they want. As proved in this quote “They just really believe in the end that they’re just going to keep on pushing, keep on making the phone calls, writing the letters, whatever they have to do” (Pg.165). As the quote expresses people who have grit are going to get to whatever they want in life because they are never going to surrender. They are always going to try until the very last moment, where whatever they wanted comes true. A person should always have perseverance and grit in themselves because that is the only way to be very successful in life! In conclusion a person should never give up in life and should push themselves until they reach their

There is no question that the American education system is flawed and is not the most effective to teach students a broad range of academic subjects. Students are graded on the ability to reproduce knowledge onto a piece of paper after days, weeks, or months of studying a topic. The lack of this ability results in failure to earn a passing grade in the subject matter. If the student can reproduce the desired knowledge at a highly proficient rate, they receive a rating that distinguishes them from other students. In “A Young Person’s Guide to the Grading System,” an article written by Jerry Farber, a professor of English at the University of California at San Diego, the grading system is put at fault for the flawed educational system.…

In order to live a successful and happy life, both "The Odyssey" and "The Cask of Amontillado" show that perseverance is the most important quality to have, because struggles yield good results and goals are reached. Some may believe that perseverance does not lead to happiness and success, however, struggles yield good results. In "The Odyssey", Odysseus shows great perseverance despite the troubles he faces, such as "the Cyclops" (306), "the Lord Helios" (922), "the suitors mad with fear" (1290), and many more. Odysseus had multiple obstacles throughout his journey that could have hindered his success. He was able to fight through every battle that came his way, and return to his home in Ithaca.…

In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

The sentiments about the word “grit” expressed in the article motivated me to contribute to an Advanced Placement culture here at The Young Women Leadership Of Astoria. Oftentimes, when students get good grades they think that they are smart and when given in their best work. They think highly of themselves and would not do a superb job. Therefore, they often think that no matter how how big or how small they try they would often get a better grade. You should get rewarded for the effort that was put in your work and not the grade, that would promote them to do better on the following assignment.…

As a student, I don’t think much about how a brain handles all the information I gather while being in control of every bit of my body. Learning is said by many to be important for young ones as it will help their brains grow and so they won’t fall behind. This is usually said by parents, and their children usually fall behind due to their mindset, not failed attempts in learning. A mindset is what every student has and it shows how they are gaining knowledge or intelligence in classes. Two mindsets are in place in school: a fixed mindset where students are afraid of challenges and going further with learning because they don’t have the ability to become intelligent, and a growth mindset where students believe learning is the key way to gain intelligence and will take on challenges.…

In Dying to Win, Robert Pape explains the causal logic of suicide terrorism and why the phenomenon has become more frequent since its inception in the 1980’s. This is accomplished through dividing the logic into three categories: strategic, social, and individual. Throughout this explanation Pape argues that suicide campaigns are not primarily derived from religious fundamentalism, but nationalism. This would indicate that such tactics are also a form of insurgency. To assess the overall argument, other scholar’s works on terrorist strategy will be used along with examples of conventional insurgencies.…
