“Perfect” is a romantic ballad with denotations, or literal meanings of words, to express the love for a previous lover that he has rekindled feelings with. For example, “ ‘cause we were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it was, I will not give you up this time” (Sheeran 6-8). This quotation supports the claim of his diction being very concrete and straightforward, because he is stating exactly how he feels. He will not let this girl go this time. Throughout the song he compares himself to this dream girl of his and expresses all the dreams and wishes of a life he wants to share with her. For example, “Well I found a woman, stronger than anyone I know. She shares my dreams; I hope that one day ill share her home” (Sheeran 15-16). Here Sheeran continues with his straightforward linguistic style and confesses he want to live with this girl and he later continues on to say he wants kids with her. He states “I found a love, to carry more than just my secrets. To carry love, to carry children of our own” (Sheeran 17-18). This quotation shows Sheeran not only wants kids, but really trusts his girlfriend. He thinks this could be the start of a new family.
