In chapter one of “Patterns for College Writing” Mrs. Kirszner discusses how to be a critical reader. One of the key things discussed in this chapter is how to annotate a text. It shows a few specific examples, encouraging students to develop skills in annotation. Within these examples, I found several different steps that I had never heard of before. Along with these steps, I also discovered a few that I had already involved in my studying. Within the text, I discovered several ways to annotate that I have already found to be useful. These types include underlining important concepts, drawing arrows to and from related points, and staring main points. As a student, I often study several different types of text.
