Dante Pignetti In Pat Conroy’s novel Lords of Discipline, Dante Pignetti’s ghost is the shame of growing up poor. Throughout the entirety of the novel Pig struggles with being the poor one in the group and is never truly able to separate this fact from his identity. While Pig was known for many things like his physical attributes and his strength, his muscles never hid the fact that he didn’t have much to his name. Because he was poor he constantly needed to borrow money and when times got tough steal in order to survive. However, Pig could not escape his ghost it stuck with him and ultimately led to his demise. Because Pig was so poor he constantly had to ask his roommates for money in order to survive.
