Technology today has the ability downright befuddle the average person. As a race, we have implemented numerous ideas into society that capture the interest of the general public and amaze individuals all over the world. While the specifics of these impressive innovations vary, they are always rooted in a common element: human curiosity. The human mind is the key to unlocking the hidden mysteries of the world. Simply possessing a mind, however, is obviously an insufficient prerequisite for unearthing society’s secrets. To reach this higher level of achievement, one must be able to harness the power of his or her mind, applying its knowledge to the problems of the real world. In his Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paolo Freire discusses the prominence of developing this type of critical thinking and the means by which one can achieve this goal. Education, as the author explains, is the key to this critical development. Freire’s education models and compelling viewpoints, although expressed decades ago, still hold steadfast in their application today. …show more content…
The teachers at the school educate through thought-provoking discussion questions that ignite students’ curiosities with a willingness to learn. Freire holds educators primarily accountable for ensuring this critical development of students. A contrary view is that there exists a mutually responsible relationship between the educator and the educated where students must genuinely want to absorb the knowledge being imparted.
